Dare to Serve Together: Inter-generational Missions Trips

But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.”- Joshua 24:15

If you are check in for your daily or weekly dose of JH Uth Guy wisdom, resources, or twisted Ran-Dumb humor. I am away from the office. I left yesterday for our second Jr. High "Dare to Serve" project of the summer for our ministry. We actually have 5 trips/projects happening this summer in our ministry- 2 for the JH ministry and 3 for the SH ministry.

This year our MS/JH trip theme is "D2S2", standing for "dare to serve together". A few weeks back was our first ever fully inter-generational project serving in our own community with 16 families and a little over 60 people involved in just a one day project. We had students sign up their full family including parents and siblings. It was an amazing day and the next step in what we are trying to accomplish in connecting what we do in the 6th-8th grade with their home life and the rest of their church life.

I started off the day with the verse above and couple simple thoughts:

- Serving as a family is a Biblical Value

- Serving as a family is a Family Value

- Serving as a family is a Church Value

- Serving as a family can become a Personal, Faith, and Life Value in your Teen

This week we are away for almost the full week, serving with a rescue mission not too far away. Once again our theme and idea is "serving together" and "intergenerational connection". We are taking a few of our leaders, but are also including some parents and other member of our church coming out serving along side our students on and off through out the week.

The idea and core value for our week is that serving and missions is more than an event, but it is an on going process in our ministry, church, home/family and personal life.

- It is Taught

- It is Talked About

- It is Tested and Testified

- It is forming and creating Togetherness

I would challenge you to think beyond "student missions & serving" trips and project. Start considering the whole, connected idea of being together. It in the end it may end up being something that lasts beyond the event of a trip, the couple years of youth group, and translate into a lifestyle of faith that last.

(*Once I get back from our serving trip, I will be taking some personal time with family and getting away and refreshing before getting ready for a new youth group/school year)
